The news that the EU is to remove some of the sanctions against Zimbabwe as a ‘reward’ comes as a shock. ‘Reward for what?’ was my immediate reaction. Reward for being a police state, perhaps?

Our new draft constitution has finally been released. It has been four years in the making and cost over forty million US dollars to get to this stage. The draft runs to 164 pages; each of its fifty six thousand plus words has cost over one thousand US dollars.

Former Zanu-PF Politburo member Dr Simba Makoni has said that sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the US were not affecting ordinary people. Makoni also said the current indigenisation laws discriminated against whites.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth wants to visit Zimbabwe, a trip that will likely strengthen ties with Zimbabwe. The royal tour, possibly the Queen’s last to Zimbabwe given her age, if it materialises, will coincide with nationwide celebrations marking her 60 years on the throne.

Zimbabwe born boxer Dereck Chisora has been banned indefinitely from boxing by the World Boxing Council for his shameful brawl with David Haye. Chisora was involved in a violent confrontation with Haye in the press conference after his WBC world heavyweight title defeat by Vitali Klitschko.

HARARE – Kembo Mohadi, the co-home Affairs Minister has been named in a citizenship scam involving a Chinese national and a man claiming to be the minister’s brother. Aneti Mbedzi, a 56-year-old man who allegedly claims to be Mohadi’s brother, has already appeared in court on allegations of defrauding Li Chuanya.
