NOTICES & EVENTS

FROM THE ZIMBABWE VIGIL

CALL TO ACTION:

1.       From WOZA

Today (Wednesday, 29th November) WOZA held a peaceful march in Bulawayo to launch their People's Charter.  At least 63 women, 4 men and 6 babies were arrested.  Police used brutal force - several people are hospitalised including a baby and one woman with a suspected broken leg.  WOZA leaders, Jenni Williams and Magodonga Mahlangu, who visited us at the Vigil in October last year, are amongst those arrested.

WOZA asks us to contact the Bulawayo Police Force to ask them why they think it is necessary to beat innocent women. You can reach them on +263 09 72515, 263 09 61706, 263 09 63061, 263 09 69860 (Central Police Station).   For a fuller report, check SW Radio Africa on: http://www.swradioafrica.com/news291106/woza291106.htm

Take five minutes out to join the people of Zimbabwe in the sound of freedom.  Every Wednesday, between 1 pm and 1.25 pm – Four weeks of activism:

-         Whistle for justice.

-         Hoot your horn for an end to shortages.

-         Clap your hands for freedom from oppressive laws.

-         Beat your pots and pans for an end to hunger.

-         Shout for a new home-grown constitution.

-         Pray for five minutes for salvation of Zimbabwe

Let Zimbabwe reverberate with the loud, sweet sound of freedom and resistance. Lunch hour will never be the same!

The vigil, outside the Zimbabwe Embassy, 429 Strand, London, takes place every Saturdays from 14.00 - 18.00 to protest against gross violations of human rights by the current regime in Zimbabwe.  The Vigil which started in October 2002 will continue until internationally-monitored, free and fair elections are held in Zimbabwe.  http://www.zimvigil.co.uk.

Zim Exiles Forum say

Dear Sir/Madam

We are writing to you to draw your attention to our efforts in garnering support for a petition calling for formal dialogue to be established to resolve the problems that are currently bedevilling the country.  We are just ordinary Zimbabweans who feel the time to pursue dialogue is now than wait to rush in humanitarian aid in a catastrophic scenario.

The thrust is to avert a human tragedy whatever the causes!, the ordinary Zimbabwean is now suffering and facing insurmountable difficulties which we feel the petition call for dialogue will help address.  Unlike many conflicts in the world, we believe the Zimbabwe problems are much easier to solve if political egos are set aside and all stake holders come together and seriously talk with a view to honestly reach lasting solutions.

We would therefore much appreciate your donating a prominent space on your site to post the link below so as to enable those who want to make comments and sign the petition an opportunity to do so.

MDC Central London Branch Assembly 04 September

All card carrying members of the MDC Central London Branch are hereby
notified and warmly invited to come and take part in a Branch Assembly
meeting on Monday the 4th September at 7.30 pm.

This Branch Assembly will take the place of the usual Monday Forum.

The venue is the Theodore Bullfrog pub at 26-30 John Adam Street, London
WC2N 6HL.  This venue may be familiar to many of you who have attended
the Monday Forum meetings there. We will be meeting in the upstairs room
of the pub.

The meeting will be chaired by Ephraim Tapa, the Chair of MDC Central
London Branch.  You will meet members of the MDC Central London
Committee and hear what we have been doing since you elected us into
post.  We will be discussing many of the important issues currently
facing Zimbabweans: the asylum issue, plans for the election of a new
MDC National Executive for the UK & Ireland, the situation at home and,
most importantly, what you can do to play your part in the struggle for
democratic change in Zimbabwe.  In addition, our Treasurer stepped down
earlier this year and your committee appointed Julius Mutyambizi Dewa to
take his place, subject to confirmation by you the members. This meeting
will therefore include formal elections for the post of Treasurer of the
branch.

Please come promptly.  We look forward to seeing you all there.

Zimbabwe London Forum Mon:  3 July 2006

This week is refugee week and Monday 26th June was International Day in
Support of Victims of Torture. Several of us attended a meeting at the
House of Lords chaired by Baroness d'Souza to commemorate the Victims of
Organised Violence in Zimbabwe. Presentations were delivered on behalf
of the Redress Trust, the Zimbala Trust and the Zimbabwe Human Rights
NGO Forum. Anna Meryt will give a report of notes from this meeting.
Later that day we went to St Martin-in-the-Fields where victims told
their stories and a Zim choir sang followed by a procession to Zim
House.

On Monday 3rd July the case of AA v the Home office reopens in the
Appeal Court. The outcome is crucial for Zimbabwean Asylum seekers.
Whether deportations resume depends on the decision of the court. Harris
Nyatsanza will present a report, as he will be in court all day. Vigils
will be taking place in various towns across the UK in support of
keeping the block on removals to Zimbabwe. Others also will report on
the days events.

So stay in touch with current events and come to the Forum. The reports
will be followed by the usual lively discussions and 'networking' around
the bar afterwards. Come and join us!
