Newly-promoted Zimbabwe National Army Chief of Staff (Quartermaster Staff) Major-General Hlanganani Dube has promised to work hard to ensure that he meets the expectations of his principals and juniors.

Maj-Gen Dube

Major-Gen Dube is one of four Brigadier-Generals who were recently promoted to the rank of Major-General by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

In December last year, President Mnangagwa, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, promoted several senior officers.

Among those promoted were former Brigadier-Generals David Sigauke, John Chris Mupande, Paul Chima and Hlanganani Dube. The latter was in South Africa on duty when the investiture ceremony was conducted.

Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Philip Valerio Sibanda conferred Major-Gen Dube with his new rank on Thursday last week at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks.

“I feel greatly humbled by the leadership to be promoted to this rank and I know that the army’s success is about efficiency and logistics.

I have been given the task to be the chief of staff (logistics) in the Zimbabwe National Army and therefore you know that the army moves from its stomach and I want to make sure that I satisfy the expectations of the leadership and at the same time satisfy the expectations of the soldiers,” he said in his acceptance speech.

“I know there are a lot of challenges, but I will try to ensure that the services that are expected from the department that I am leading are met,” he said.

Speaking at the investiture ceremony, Gen Sibanda challenged the newly promoted senior officers to diligently discharge their duties, which come with increased responsibilities.

“A lot more officers and men of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces were promoted during the course of the year 2017 and I want to take this opportunity to congratulate all of them on their promotion, and I hope that they will perform to our expectations in their new ranks,” he said.

He said any promotion came with increased responsibilities.

“And now to you Major-General Hlanganani Dube, you have been chosen from amongst many to be elevated to the rank of Major-General and there are expectations that come with that promotion.

Expectations from those above you and expectations from those below you and we can only hope that you are going to meet those expectations.

“Therefore, it is our wish as the leadership to see that you perform as we expect. And those below you will also look up to you and I hope you live up to their expectations,” Gen Sibanda said. The Herald
