Thembelani Nkomo (23) allegedly emptied a pot of boiling water on Ms Annastacia Mpofu`s back.

Ms Mpofu was accompanied by her two brothers Frank and Mandlenkosi but they failed to restrain Nkomo.

Ms Mpofu sustained burns on her left shoulder, wrist and back following the assault and was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment.

The amount of money she was owed by Nkomo’s husband was not revealed in court.

Nkomo yesterday appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Ms Adelaide Mbeure facing assault charges. She pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to December 15.

“We were wrestling and I pushed her resulting in her falling on the pot with hot water,” said Ms Nkomo.

Prosecuting Mr Nkathazo Dlodlo said the incident occurred on November 16 at around 6PM. He said Ms Mpofu and her brothers failed to locate Nkomo`s husband.

“They had a misunderstanding with the accused person. Nkomo who mistook Ms Mpofu for her husband’s lover, took a pot of boiling water and poured it on the complainant`s back,” said Mr Dlodlo. Chronicle
