Pageant winners to get prizes next year

January 6, 2017 has been provisionally set as the day when Miss Tourism Zimbabwe (MTZ) Ashley Morgen and her two princesses – Nonhlanhla Dube (Miss Agro-Tourism) and Shirley-Ann Lindsay (Miss City Tourism) will be given their prizes.

This date is the third postponement in as many weeks as the MTZ Trust has not been able to fulfil its obligation.

Morgen is expected to receive $20 000 and a car as well as $2 500 for being crowned Miss People’s Choice.

Dube is set to get $10 000 while Lindsay will get $5 000.

The other five contestants who made the top eight will likely be invited to the prize giving ceremony as they were promised $1 000 each as well as a year’s tuition at any college they are attending.

MTZ Trust spokesperson, Alson Darikayi said they have been postponing the prize giving ceremony to focus on the queen’s Miss Tourism International preparations.

“When Ashley returns from Malaysia, which is at the beginning of January next year, we’ll hopefully hold the prize giving ceremony on the 6th of January,” said Darikayi.

The delay in the handing over of the prizes has taken away the glitz from the glamorous event held in Harare last month as some are speculating that the promised prizes are non-existent.

Darikayi however said: “The prizes are there, it’s just a matter of scheduling a day when we’ll hand them over to the winners. Chronicle
