DeMbare choose new board

Ernest Kamba was appointed the new Dynamos interim board chairman during the club’s Emergency General Meeting (EGM) held at Prince Edward School in the capital yesterday.

The meeting described by the new interim leader as “highly successful” saw a total of 10 members being elected onto the board on an interim basis and as per the institute’s constitution they will be expected to be in office for forty days after which an elective Annual General Meeting will be held to appoint as a substantive board.

Other members of the interim board include five-time Soccer of the Year George Shaya, Graciano Kapfunde, Sam Komondo, Simon Sachiti, Joseph Tsuro, Peter Huni, Isdore Sagwete and David Phiri.

The interim board is set to meet at a local hotel today to choose a secretariat among themselves with Kamba still favourite to retain the chairman’s position.

Former board members George Michael and Harrison Mbewe were earlier proposed to sit on the interim board but recused themselves for the time being sighting their court case that has seen their personal property being attached as a current hindrance.

Yesteryear talisman and former Dynamos, Gunners and Harare City coach Moses Chunga also attended the meeting providing some useful insight into the affairs of the club and what the members needed to do to be successful.

Ex- DeMbare captain Angirayi Chapo, Misheck Chidzambwa, July Sharara, Makwinji Soma Phiri, David George all weighed in with sound contributions during the meeting among other delegates.

“The work starts here, we are grateful to all the members who managed to attend to this historic meeting with the common goal of restoring sanity to our beloved club and team Dynamos.

“We are very privileged to have few representatives from those that played between 1963 and 1968 and it is through their guidance and advice that we will move towards our intended goal,” Kamba said.

“Let me state from the onset that we are and will never discriminate along the lines of years that each and every one of us might have played for this club.

“We would like to do away with this syndrome that Dynamos belongs to the class of 63-68, it is for everyone who has the club welfare at heart.

“Our common goal is to claim back our rightful ownership from those that are alleging to be bona fide owners of Dynamos so that we leave the institution in a healthy position when we pave the way for the next generation and everyone who shares the same vision and dream is most welcome.”

Eric Aisam, who assumed secretarial role just for the EGM, challenged Kamba and his colleagues ensure that Dynamos gets back into the right hands.

“We are disappointed in that despite being a big brand Dynamos doesn’t have anything to show for it; there’s no club house, we don’t have a stadium of our own, former players wallow in abject poverty and no one is in a position to help them yet we have all made the team a brand it is today,” Aisam said.

“The problem is that at your level you treat each other with kid gloves; it’s high time you look each other in the face and call a spade a spade otherwise your kids and generations to come will blame you forever for the state we find our club in.”

Kapfunde, who was the youngest member among the class of 63-68, called for unity of purpose as they embark on a journey to liberate the club from the hegemony of the current leadership which he refers to as “illegitimate.”

“We are all bound by the common need and anybody who sings the song with us belongs to us and there’s no need to peep into each other with magnifying glasses trying to find out where one is coming from or which class they belong to.

“Let’s work together for the common good our club Dynamos which by agreement should be the sole winner.” Daily News
