Award-winning Zimbabwean designer Ishmael Tsakatsa flew the country’s flag high at the three-day Swahili Fashion Week which ended in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.
Tsakatsa’s Zargue’sia brand got the chance to be showcased alongside some designs by some of Africa’s best.
The 24-year-old’s designs of whites, reds and gold left the audience in awe.
“My collection is inspired by the book titled The Power of Your Mind by Chris Oyakhilome.
“I am just so relieved that I managed to showcase and I hope the audience loved it. There is so much pressure involved in participating,” said the rising designer.
Tsakatsa is hopeful that his participation in the Swahili Fashion Week will help him break into the East African market.
“I applied to showcase at the event when I saw the call for submissions. I feel this is a great platform for me to show my designs in a new market. The East African market would be great to penetrate. My next targets are South Africa and France,” he said.
Tsakatsa added that his Zargue’sia brand is associated with Christianity.
“It exudes the effulgence of God’s beauty and love. It is an allure of elegance, opulence and a romanticism of royalty. The brand is a reflection of the aesthetic inner beauty and grace in a man and woman of affluence and excellence.
“The Zargue’sia Woman is that woman that adorns her femininity with flair. She is that virtuous woman of affluence who takes pleasure in clothing that depicts pure timeless elegance.
“Her sense of style is conservative and gracious yet sophisticated and dramatic while the Zargue’sia Man is debonair man who embraces his masculinity with sartorial elegance and style. He is a man who is fashion-forward, sophisticated and urbane whereas he displays a character and personality of a suave gentleman who is self-assured and a man of honour and respect,” said Tsakatsa.
