Winky D protests youths’ continued suffering

Zimdancehall artiste Winky D’s latest studio project Gafa Futi reflects struggles and challenges faced by youths in modern day society due to the prevailing negative socio-political situation in the country.
He also blasts the influential and rich for locking the gates to riches on the suffering masses.
In the track Twenty-Five off the latest offering, Winky D real name Wallace Chirumiko mirrors what the majority of youths are going through to realise their dreams with most of their wishes thwarted by costly socio-political decisions made by owners of means of production in society.
The track Twenty-Five is about a young person who was dreaming of a better life come the age of 25 but nothing materialised when he reached that age.
In fact, the situation starts getting worse as he grows older as this was not what he anticipated at all.
Part of the lyrics go like; “Ndichikura ndaiti mafunny handimbotambura, Vari pacorner inungo dzokusakura. Ndaiti ndikasvika 25 ndaigaya ndenge ndane better life…ndaigaira kalife kekudenga denga which can be loosely translated to mean (when I was still growing I was confident of success in life. I used to disparage loafers wandering on the streets, thinking they were lazy…)”
Winky D said while youths are really fighting hard to make ends meet, they are not to blame for the failure to bring food on their tables.
“Kuchikoro ndakaenda, degree ndakasenga ndakuzvibvunza kuti chii nhai ichi. . . basa can’t get. . . (I went to school and I attained a degree, I now no longer see value in the document (degree) . . . as there is no employment…),” says part of the song.
As a result, youths are employing dubious means of earning a living despite their qualifications.
“Zuva nezuva ndirimo ini musoccer bet profit yacho idiki tiri four pazheti (Gambling has become the order of the day though the profit is very small).”
In the song, Winky D unpacks that the society is structured in a certain way that the poor will remain scratching for a living while those who own means of productions will continue amassing wealth.
The divides which demarcate these social classes is difficult to cross, according to German philosopher Karl Marx.
“Kune maguta hakuendeki because vane mari vakatenga zicheni ndokulocker gate but gafa riri kutraya (It is difficult to cross the social divide as the rich or ruling class continue implementing policies that restrict the downtrodden members of the society to remain poor though they are trying their level best to put food on their families’ tables),” reads part of the lyrics.
The track Twenty-Five is not Winky D’s first song to tackle socio-economic challenges faced by youth in life.
On his previous album, Winky D collaborated with Shinsoman on the track Survivor where they tackled the same issue.
“Ukationa takaleza pacorner vanoti hapana zvatinogona. . . kumaghetto youth mikana mishona . . . hakuna ghetto youth risina zvarinogona (being idle does not mean uselessness…there are not enough opportunities in ghetto youths…every youth is talented somehow).
“Ndati ndizame chiconductor porice riri kurova nemboma apa, ndironge musika pana Charter kanzura demon rekanzuru rabva rabata… and futi tine nharo (I tried to operate a commuter omini-bus but police is blocking the move, trying a hand in vending municipal police is also against it)” says the lyrics.
