This was revealed by the ZimPF Manicaland provincial executive, which indicated that Mutezo was now a card carrying member of the Zanu PF offshoot.

The confirmation comes after Mutezo had long been suspected to be a Mujuru sympathiser even when he was still in Zanu PF.

The former Zanu PF politburo member was also not forthcoming when attempts were made by journalists to clarify his ZimPF membership status.

However, RadioVOP gathered that Mutezo has not yet been offered any leadership position within ZimPF, which is still toiling to set up structures in preparation for its inaugural congress.

ZimPF provincial information and publicity officer, Moses Mutyasira, after verifications, confirmed that Mutezo had officially joined the newly established party.

“I can confirm that Mutezo is now one of us. I am the (Manicaland provincial) spokesperson and the most reliable source of information,” said Mutyasira.

ZimPF provincial head of finance Canaan Matiasha who hails from the same Ward as Mutezo, confirmed selling party cards to him and his immediate family.

“I can confirm Mr Mutezo is a card carrying and full member of ZimPF. I personally wrote his card and (those of) his family members,” said Matiasha.

ZimPF national spokesperson, Jealousy Mawarire said Mutezo was welcome to join the party just as any other person who so wishes to.

“Joining a political party is a personal decision. It’s his democratic right to make. As for a position in ZimPF, it is all up to the province that he joins from, when he joins to elect him to any position that they feel he can best serve in if the people in the particular province see it that way.

“We are a party in a serious recruitment drive so we welcome every Zimbabwean who chooses to join our exponentially growing party. Everyone is welcome to join and naturally we rejoice for every member that joins us,” said Mawarire.

ZimPF founding members and former Zanu PF stalwarts, Didymus Mutasa and Rugare Gumbo had on numerous occasions indicated that Mutezo was part one of them, way before his expulsion from the ruling party. Radio VOP
