MDC-T to hold anniversary in Bulawayo on Saturday

Bulawayo will once again witness a major political event when the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) party holds its 17th anniversary there on Saturday.
The celebrations are scheduled for White City Stadium under the theme “Redefining the End Game”.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) recently held its first anniversary in the second capital recently, while the Zimbabwe People First Movement (ZimPF) has also held meetings in the city this year.
MDC-T organizing secretary, Abednico Bhebhe said the MDC-T celebrations, though, will be low key because of prevailing economic challenges that have affected the finances of political parties.
“Unfortunately, the economic situation will not allow us to have big celebrations, but the event is on this Saturday, thanks to the party membership that continues to sacrifice the little they have to ensure party programmes are not disrupted,” he told the local media.
“It is every party’s wish to hold massive celebrations, but we are hard hit by the economic situation that Zanu PF surprisingly and shockingly refuses or chooses to acknowledge.We are operating under a very tight budget owing to the destruction of the economy by Zanu PF,” he added.
Morgan Tsvangirai, the MDC-T leader, will attend together with his three deputies, Nelson Chamisa, ThokozaniKhupe and Elias Mudzuri and other senior party leaders.
Chamisa and Mudzuri were recently added to the party presidium to boost the party leadership ahead of the 2018 general elections.
Bulawayo and the Matabeleland regions have been a bedrock of MDC-T support since its formation in 1999.
The main opposition has failed to dislodge President Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF party amid repeated allegations of electoral fraud and violence instigated by the ruling party.
