Zimbabwe Warriors drop in rankings

The Warriors’ loss to Guinea in their last Nations Cup qualifier has cost Zimbabwe dearly on the FIFA rankings as the nation dropped three places to 113 on the latest table released by the world football governing body.

Zimbabwe lost 0-1 to Guinea on September 4 in Conakry, in a match where the Warriors travelled on the eve of the match, for their first loss in the qualifiers.

The Warriors, though, are the only Southern African nation to qualify for the 2017 Nations Cup finals. The AFCON draw will be conducted on October 19.

Cote d’Ivoire, who scrapped into the 2017 Nations Cup finals, are now the continent’s top team followed by Algeria and Senegal while Zimbabwe are now ranked 35th on the CAF ratings.

Lionel Messi’s Argentina remain the top ranked nation in the world, Belgium are number two while Germany are fourth. Colombia and Brazil complete the world’s top five. — Sportszone
