Former MP kicks wife out of home, 48 hours after she dropped domestic violence charges against him
The wife of former MDC-T legislator Timothy Mubhawu yesterday narrated to the court how her husband kicked her out of the matrimonial home barely 48 hours after she had withdrawn domestic violence charges against the politician.
Testifying in a case in which Mubhawu breached a protection order, Molleen said she regretted forgiving her husband.
“On July 6, I went into the kitchen to prepare supper and he followed me,” she narrated.
“He asked what I was doing in the kitchen because he did not want to see me.
“He said he had already prepared his meal because he does not trust me.
“He said I am capable of lacing his food with poison because I am a Satanist and a prostitute.”
Molleen said Mubhawu became aggressive when she dismissed his allegations.
“He shoved my handbag in my hands and pushed me outside and locked the gate. It was around 9pm,” she said.
“He shouted that I should come and take everything and leave him the house and children.
“I went to a nearby AFM church and introduced myself to the caretaker and his wife.”
Molleen said she was in distress and asked to pray.
“It was barely 48 hours after withdrawing a domestic violence case against my husband,” she said.
Molleen said she had withdrawn the charges after Mubhawu pledged to reform.
“I remained in the church until midnight when the caretaker’s wife joined me in prayers saying she was deeply disturbed by my plight.
“This was not the first time I was assaulted and chased from home. There is a ditch by the corner of house number 25 and I spent the rest of the night there.”
In the morning, Molleen said she asked to take a bath in the neighbourhood before reporting the abuse to the police.
“I did not want them to make a formal report because no one believed me anymore after withdrawing my domestic violence case,” she said.
Meanwhile, Mubhawu’s application to have magistrate Mr Vakayi Chikwekwe recuse himself was dismissed.
