Baba Tencen disappoints as Anne Kansiime shines in Zimbabwe

Saturday night was a dark night for popular skit-making comedian Baba Tencen as he failed to hit the mark at the Anne Kansiime show in Harare.
The South Africa-based comedian clearly had a case of jitters and could not perform to expectations, leaving the crowd shaking their heads in pity.
Baba Tencen best known for his catch phrases, Kuripwa Kugara and Ungandidii surely had his work cut out for him to make over 3 500 people laugh.
So bad was the performance that the MC had to literally beg people to clap for him when he abruptly ended his performance, but they remained cold towards him.
It was a baptism of fire for the comedian who many people felt should just stick to recording skits as stand up is “clearly” not his forte.
His voice projection was generally poor, speaking too fast that people could not hear what he was saying.
One audience member identified as Eddie said: “Baba Tencen njuga dzarema. He has been overwhelmed by the crowd and his jokes are dry.”
While others felt he needed more practice and confidence boosting.
Some of the feedback from Facebook from Mitchell Gumbo read; “Zvokwadi ungavadii? Hapana zvamunovaita! (What can you do. There is nothing you can do to him). He came from SA, drank his Cola on stage, danced to Tocky, made some Sahara dry jokes and walked away….. Ungamudii?”
Then came the woman of the night Kansiime who gave people value for their money.
She was left speechless when she got on stage and noticed how big the crowd was.
Naysayers were left with egg on their face as people came out in support of the comedy night.
“What did they tell you was happening here?” she asked.
Getting into her set, the funny woman had clearly done her research on Zimbabwean news as she incorporated jokes which involved Stunner and Wicknell Chivayo.
“When I came I was driven in a Lexus…how is he?”
The crowd just looked at her wondering who she was referring to; some guessed she was talking about the president.
Then suddenly she said, “Stunner how is he?” in reference to the accident he had in June when he was driving a Lexus in the Harare CBD.
She also joked about Wicknell’s weight and how God had given him money to suit his body type.
Kansiime kept people laughing until the end, bringing value for money.
The promoters must have made a lot of profit as the venue was almost full to capacity.
Another sterling performance was from Gonyeti of Bustop TV.
This was her second stand up show and she used the opportunity to make political jokes especially regarding the First Lady Grace Mugabe, bond notes and Zanu PF factionalism.
Beat boxer Probeatz and guitarist, Silent Nqo who recently returned from the World Championships of Performing Arts (Wicopa) held in Hollywood left the crowd asking for more.
The multi medal winners performed DJ Clock and Beatenburg’s Remember You/Pluto, other songs from Nigerian musicians incorporated in beat boxing and guitar.
MC and stand stand-up comedian, Q the Boss also had the crowd laughing, poking fun at Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko’s prolonged hotel stay.
“Everybody please clap your hands, I will tell you why we are clapping…we want to thank the VP for allowing us to use his living room for the night,” to the crowd’s delight at this joke which clearly burnt the VP.
The night was generally marked with good performances and the show ended around 11pm, having started at 8pm. Daily News
