‘No complainant against Wizkid’

The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (Nacz) has said it will take action against the promoter of the ill-fated Wizkid concert.

The gig failed to take place in April.

The Nigerian musician failed to perform at Old Hararians Sports Club despite the fact that he was in the country, holed up in a local hotel.

Responding to questions presented to them by the Daily News, Nacz said they had no basis for taking action against Wizkid.

“We make reference to our response on April 11, 2016 and still feel all your questions are answered by those responses save to

indicate that we have not yet received complaints from clients who paid and were not refunded or happy with how they were handled by the promoter of Wizkid.

“In the absence of complainant, Nacz, has no mandate to police business operations of a promoter.”

The previous responses referred to by the council were that promotion was a business, hence a promoter is allowed to make decisions that result in losses.

“Organising shows is a business hence it is the responsibility of the promoter to ensure that clients are properly compensated whenever shows are disrupted by natural cause as was said to be the reason in this instance. Should clients feel aggrieved or short-changed, they can always appeal to Nacz for intervention.

“What Nacz is aware of is the fact that the show was postponed to another date in the future. Clearance of shows in Zimbabwe is done after presentation of information like venue, entry fee, artists involved and number of shows to be held.

“Nacz will only be able to determine if there is further obligation or not by the promoter after all the relevant information is submitted,” said Nacz communications and marketing officer Catherine Mthombeni. Daily News
