Hlalo drags Tsvangirai to court again

By Jeffrey Muvundusi

Former MDC Mzilikazi senator Matson Hlalo has renewed his bid to be reinstated in the party after he yesterday filed a fresh application for review at the High Court.

Hlalo was last month expelled from the party for taking party issues to the courts without exhausting internal remedies.

However, efforts to reverse his expulsion from the party as well as from the Senate hit a brick wall after a High Court judge dismissed his urgent chamber application.

But despite the snag, Hlalo is apparently optimistic and has roped in a new legal team to push his case.

In his new application, Hlalo cites party president Morgan Tsvangirai, national chairman Lovemore Moyo, secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora as respondents.

Through his new lawyer Dumisani Dube of Mathonsi Ncube Law chambers, Hlalo is seeking the court to declare his expulsion from the opposition party unlawful.

Dube argued that the decision was also irregular and unprocedural in that it violated the rules of natural justice as the applicant was never formally charged for committing any act of misconduct.

Hlalo through Dube said the whole process was in fact irregular in that the applicant appealed to the Appeals Tribunal in terms of the party’s constitution, yet the decision to expel him was made by the national standing committee. Daily News
