The rape, which continued even after she got married, sent tongues wagging after it was finally revealed.

Sylvester Nzima, 46, of Moya Village in Lupane was found guilty by Hwange magistrate Dambudzo Malunga and sentenced him to 15 years in jail.

Two years were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar crime in the next five years and he will serve 13 years effectively.

Prosecutor Tawanda Sigauke told the court that on a date the complaint could not remember but during the year 2014, her mother Sibonisiwe Mathe, father (Nzima) and herself were in their kitchen hut when the accused told her that he needed to have sexual intercourse with her.

In her evidence, the complainant narrated how her father had requested to have sex with her in order to “prepare her” to become a woman when she gets a boyfriend.

She also revealed that she told her aunt about the matter who also chose to remain mum.

The complainant and her mother did not say anything as they were afraid of the accused, the court heard.

On the first day in the evening at around 9pm, he went to the complainant’s bedroom where he reportedly told her that he had come to sleep with her but he was turned down.

But Nzima could not have any of it as he threatened to kill his daughter using a spear.

Nzima would regularly enter his daughter’s room and have sexual intercourse with her without her consent while threatening her with death.

A year later, the complainant got married and the accused surprisingly ordered her daughter to come back for sexual intercourse after every three days.

She complied and that happened on a number of occasions. Each time she failed to turn up after three days, the accused would go there and forcibly bring her home.

The court further heard that the complainant could not tell anyone since her mother was fully aware of all the shenanigans.

In January this year, the complainant got pregnant and she informed the accused who told her he will look for an elderly person to look after her.

The matter came to light when she narrated her ordeal to a neighbour who quickly filed a police report, leading to the accused’s arrest. This then led to an authorised abortion as it was felt that she can’t have a baby with her own father. Her marriage eventually collapsed as a result. Daily News
