For the bible says….. beware of false prophets

By Ivy Chibanda

Nowadays, people fear to express their feelings or doubts on any prophets’ miracles as the next person might be an avid follower of that particular prophet and saying anything that threatens their faith might leave you scarred after a few blows would have landed on your face.

‘The bible says touch not my anointed ones’ is what they have to say in their defense therefore you are not supposed to comment but just believe in the prophets’ miracles.

The same bible that says touch not my anointed ones is the same bible that warns us about false prophets. Matthew 24:24 says “For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect,”(ESV). When miracles are performed, are we wrong in questioning the authenticity of the prophet lest we become blinded and we are led astray?

With the emergence of prophets in each and every corner of the world, with each of them claiming to be true prophets, how then do we know whom the true prophet is and who is fake? How do we know the anointed ones which we are not to speak bad of and how do we protect ourselves from the fake prophets.

Instead of taking our time to figure this out and pray for a sign that shows us the anointed ones and the fake ones, we spend most of our time arguing in defense of these prophets.

At a time where the economy is deteriorating, we tend to go everywhere were the gospel of prosperity is emphasized. If it does not work out with this pastor, we move to the next prophet, in search of miracles. But then one has to ask is it prosperity that makes you go to heaven or is it the way you live on this earth.

I have come to realise that those who preach much of forgiveness, repentance and giving to the poor are not regarded as people with the Holy Spirit. Only those who preach the gospel of prosperity are now regarded as the true prophets. We have come at the point where the love of money has clouded our judgement of what really is at stake.

At times we forget the sole purpose of going to church, which is to praise Him, we now go to church to get miracles.  At times where our prayers are answered we do not thank God for answering our prayers, we thank the prophet.

We have come to believe that the prophets are the highway to heaven yet  Jesus said that He is the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Him. If the bible says so, why then do we have to thank God as God of prophet so and so, when God is for us all.

People move all over in search of these miracles. It’s funny how in Zimbabwe we have prophets but you find that Zimbabweans will travel from Zimbabwe to South Africa to get their miracles from the prophets there.

Yet some South Africans will also travel from South Africa, leaving the same prophets that someone has traveled hundreds of kilometres for, and come to the prophets in Zimbabwe. My question is then, if they are all men of God, why do you have to leave them and seek miracles from another who’s beyond the borders?

I believe if we pray earnestly to God, with faith, He answers and we have the power to change situations if we just believe. Let us not put our faith in prophets, but put our faith in Jesus Christ. Let the prophet help you in improving your faith in God, not change you from putting your faith in God to putting your faith in them.

We don’t have to be so naive and take some of these things for granted. I have seen people bless their prophets with cars, clothes and all as ‘seed’ when their parents have no blankets to keep them warm. Charity begins at home, I believe it’s no use pleasing your pastor or prophet when your own blood is suffering. Miracles ain’t bad but let’s be careful before we are dragged to the devil unknowingly.
