Baba Tencen, a South Africa-based Zimbabwean comedian who was given R100,000 by businessman, Wicknell Chivayo for making him laugh, has decided to share that money with the needy.
The humble comedian posted on his Facebook account that he would be giving R10,000 to a charity organisation in Zimbabwe.
“We’ve decided to donate R10,000 to charity. Kana waitirwa zvakanaka, itawo zvakanaka (If someone has done well to you, do likewise to others),” posted Baba Tencen.
His manager, Tendai Joe said they had always wanted to give back to Zimbabweans adding that the donation from Sir Wicknell could have not come at a better time.
“Baba Tencen has always wanted to give back to Zimbabwe in a certain way, not necessarily monetarily,” Joe said. He said they had since identified an organisation which they hope to support, but would reveal the name once they finalise the deal.
“We’ve asked the organisation to tell us their needs so we’re waiting on them. We’re finalising a few things with the organisation which works with vulnerable children in one of the small towns in Zimbabwe,” Joe said.
“We thank Sir Wicknell for making this possible.”
He added that if everything goes according to plan, Baba Tencen’s donation will not be once off as he will double up as the charity organisation’s ambassador, assisting their projects in order to sustain them.
“Our plan is to make a difference in people’s lives so we want to constantly be in touch with those back at home, assisting where we can.”
Asked how Baba Tencen intends to spend the remaining R90,000 Joe said it was up to him though he would advise him accordingly.
“Baba Tencen will spend his money in which ever way he wants to because it’s his after all. I do know that money excites a lot of people so I’ll guide him on how best to use it as his manager,” Joe said.
Apart from Chivayo’s funds, Baba Tencen earns a living from his Kuripwa Kugara comedy clips as well as merchandise branded Kuripwa Kugara. He has several gigs lined up with a show set for the United Kingdom in September. The Chronicle
