The charity match, held under the “Chipaz Bhora” banner, previously brought musicians and soccer legends together but this year it will only be a musicians’ affair.

The debate on whether dancehall has overtaken sungura in terms of popularity has been topical at most discussions.

Pacific and Star FM have collaborated in taking the debate to various areas in the country where disc jockeys play sungura and dancehall and invite people to vote for the better genre.

Results of the programme have shown that sungura is still more popular than dancehall in most areas although young people prefer the latter.

The rise of Zimdancehall has led to the rise of many young musicians, especially from high-density suburbs, that pursue the genre.

Zimdancehall musicians now outnumber sungura musicians and they churn out songs daily while their sungura counterparts take their time to come up with albums.

Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz promotions said the debate about the genres inspired him to come up with the soccer match pitting musicians from the genres.

Although the sungura side has musicians from other genres and promoters, the youthful Zimdancehall team is likely to be energetic.

The sungura side will be coached by Oliver Mtukudzi and Charles Charamba while Godfatha Templeman will lead the Zimdancehall team.

Musicians that will play on the sungura side include Alick Macheso, Suluman Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah, Tryson Chimbetu, Kapfupi, Peter Moyo, Nicholas Zakaria and Mathias Mhere.

In the Zimdancehall team would be musicians like Soul Jah Love, Winky D, Tocky Vibes, Killer T, Jay C, Seh Calaz, Kinnah, King Shaddy, Freeman and King Shaddy.

The match will be preceded by a match between Ngezi Platinum and Caps United while journalists from the print and electronic media will also square up.
