Celebrity couples flock to Longest Kiss contest

HARARE – Veteran jazz star Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana, and her husband broadcaster Comfort Mbofana, are among several celebrity couples that will compete in the inaugural Longest Kiss In Africa event to be held at Rainbow Towers Hotel in Harare on Valentine’s Day.

Prudence and Comfort will battle it out with several celebrity couples that include Buhera South legislator Joseph Chinotimba and wife as well as comedian Carl Joshua Ncube and his wife Nelsy in the competition being organised by the Book of African Records.

Gwen Myers, the Book of African Records marketing officer, told the Daily News that Ncube is determined to win the highly-anticipated competition.

“In preparation of the contest, Ncube said he will use his Victoria Falls show on February 13 to rehearse as he is determined to win.

“Tickets are available from the Harare International Conference Centre at a cost of $60 per couple.

“There will be a five-course lunch served before the competition. There will also be accommodation vouchers and hampers and many more prizes that will be won on the day by participating couples,” said Myers.

She added that participating couples will receive appearance fees while the winners will be included in the Book of African

Records set to be published soon.

Ekkachai Tiranarat and Laksana Tiranarat of Thailand are currently the holders of the world record of the longest kiss which lasted 58 hours, 35 minutes and 58 seconds.

This was achieved at an event held in Thailand from February 12 to 14, 2013.

Spirit Praise brings Valentine spirit to Beitbridge

RISING gospel group Spirit Praise will perform at Beitbridge’s Rainbow Hotel on Sunday night.

The group’s leader, Learnmore Tavengwa, said the Valentine’s Day event is meant to provide couples with the opportunity to renew their commitments over dinner.

“We are doing it in Beitbridge because we have a big following since we have been doing shows in that town for a long time.

“We are also inviting companies to spoil their workers and bring them along,” he said.Rainbow Beitbridge Hotel is offering free bed and breakfast to the best-dressed couple at the event, which will run between 5pm and 11pm.

The Huntertones to rock Harare tonight

The Huntertones, an American band that is based in Brooklyn, New York, will perform at Spook House in Msasa from 6pm tonight.

The innovative American group, whose music is a blend of jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop, R&B, and rock, will collaborate on stage with Zimbabwean artists Hope Masike, Tariro NeGuitare, and The Outfit, a contemporary Jazz group from Bulawayo.

Jazz veteran Bob Nyabinde will perform popular Zimbabwean love songs on Valentine’s Day at the Theatre in the Park’s new venue in the Harare Gardens. The event will run from 2pm to 6pm.

With love from Tuku

Music superstar Oliver  Mtukudzi will serenade lovers at Gotcha Nyama Restaurant and Bar located on the First Floor of Joina City Shopping Mall on Sunday.

The show will start at 3pm. Music fans will be treated to love songs that Tuku composed throughout his four-decade long career.

Tuku will be supported by rising star, Bryan Kadengu who won the Starbrite Talent Show in 2012.

Mhere launches ‘Double Double’ in style

GOSPEL musician Mathias Mhere unveiled his latest album Double Double on Wednesday night in Harare.

The event held at Rainbow Towers Hotel was attended by popular figures that included Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Chief Executive Officer Karikoga Kaseke and Kuwadzana East legislator Nelson Chamisa.

The colourful event was also graced by musicians Fungisayi-Zvakavapano-Mashavave, Trymore Bande, Tatenda Mahachi, Takesure Zamar Ncube and guest of honour Jah Prayzah.

The 10-track Double Double is made up of 10 songs namely Double Double, Makorokoza MuChurch, Nhau YaNoah, Elijah NaMwari, Kesari, Chanza, Simba, Nhava Yebenzi, Jatrofa and Zimbabwe.

Songs on the album, that was auctioned for $750, were produced several producers who included Munyaradzi Viyali, Charles Ayibek and Gibson Makumbe. Daily News
