Soldier kills wife, commits suicide

HARARE – In a gruesome domestic violence case, a soldier, McDonald Gava allegedly axed his wife to death before setting his two-roomed house on fire in Caledonia, on the outskirts of Harare.

The bodies of Gava and his wife were found burnt in the house.

Relatives and neighbours say Gava and his wife Patricia had a rocky marriage and were always trading accusations of infidelity.

“The last time I spoke to my Uncle he told me they were having marital problems but I never thought he could take such gruesome action,” said one of Gava’s nephew.

The police were at the scene of the crime and are conducting investigations.

Domestic violence continues to be a thorn in the flesh of Zimbabwean society despite spirited efforts and campaigns to bring it to an end. ZBC
