Man jailed for rape after luring victim back to his home

Johannesburg – A man has been arrested for rape after luring a 12-year-old girl to his home in Siviwe township, Komga, Eastern Cape police said on Saturday.

The 18-year-old was arrested at 03:00, Captain Jackson Manatha said.

According to Manatha, the girl had allegedly been at a party with friends on Friday night in the same township around 23:00.

“It is alleged that the suspect met the victim at the party and the victim requested a gift from the suspect.

“The suspect told the victim to follow him and fetch the gift at his home. Once they were inside the house, the suspect is alleged to have threatened the victim and raped her,” Manatha said.

A case was opened at the Komga police station around 02.00am.

“The patrol van personnel acted very swiftly and they traced the suspect. He was found and arrested.”

The man was charged with rape and is expected to appear in the Komga Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
