Teacher loses Zimsec exam sheets to prostitute

CHIPINGE – A teacher assigned to transport Grade 7 Zimsec examination answer sheets from Chipinge District’s Rimbi cluster for onward submission to the examination body’s provincial offices in Mutare lost the papers to a hooker he had hired for a one-night stand.

Residents in Dangamvura high-density suburb woke up to a big surprise last Saturday morning when they found a bag containing the answer sheets dumped near the busy Dangamvura Shopping Complex.

The bag was tampered with as some of the sealed envelopes containing the answer sheets were opened.

Realising the gravity of the offence he had committed, Fanuel Mafunga – who teaches in Chipinge but lives in Gimboki – went on to make a false report at Mutare Central Police Station to the effect that he had lost the bag with the examination papers in a commuter omnibus.

Manicaland provincial education director Mr Edward Shumba confirmed the case. He said investigations into the matter were in progress.

“The examination papers were found dumped in Dangamvura and they were subsequently picked up by Zimsec officials on Saturday morning. Five of the envelopes were opened but after a verification exercise none of the papers were missing,” he said.

Mr Shumba said his officers were on the ground investigating what actually took place because several stories were being told about the case.

“What we heard from the police is that they received a report from Mafunga to the effect that he smashed someone’s cellphone while in a kombi he had boarded from Chipinge. He alleged that the phone’s owner took the bag with the answer sheets saying he will only get it back after replacing the broken gadget.

“However, another version later came out which revealed that the teacher hired the services of a hooker at a nightclub in Dangamvura. He gave the bag to the hooker and went to the toilet to relieve himself.

“When he came back the lady of the night was nowhere to be found. He struggled to locate the hooker and was seen walking up and down. The papers were found the following morning dumped,” he said.

Mr Shumba said Mafunga disappeared soon after committing the offence.

“Right now he is nowhere to be found. We sent our guys to visit him at home but they only saw his wife who also told them that she was in the dark about his whereabouts. She only told them that he visited home and took a loaf of bread. He never came back,” he said.

Detectives handling the case revealed that they were looking for Mafunga over the false report he made.

“We tried to track him soon after he made the report but he was gone. None of his relatives know where he is,” said one of the detectives.

Further investigations by this paper showed that Mafunga was left with his mouth wide open when he failed to locate the hooker he had given the bag.

“He came to me and offered to pay me handsomely if I helped him find the hooker who disappeared with the bag.

“Unfortunately, I did not know the girl. He searched the whole place and found no one. He was troubled,” said a security guard at the nightclub who requested anonymity. Manica Post
