Busy Signal confirms Zimbabwe tour
HARARE – Jamaican dancehall star Busy Signal has confirmed his Harare International Carnival (HIC) show on October 24 at Glamis Arena.
The Dreams of Brighter Days singer, whose real name is Glendale Goshia Gordon, confirmed the upcoming concert via video on social networks.
“This is Busy Signal yours truly, I’m going to be there jam brought to you by Devine Assignments, Chipaz Promotion, live at the Glamis Stadium Harare Showgrounds, Saturday 24th. Busy Signal, I’m going to be there live checking out Zimbabwe,” he said.
In early March, Busy Signal revealed on a Jamaican television show titled Onstage his desire to perform in Africa and in Zimbabwe in particular.
“I love Africa, Africa act like they own Busy Signal and that’s a very good thing in terms of my songs,” Busy Signal said then.
“At the moment, I have got Zimbabwe lined up and it’s pending at the moment. I also got Uganda lined up and a lot of different places in Africa.”
On the Onstage television show, the award-winning musician also explained then why he called off his high-profile African tour last year.
“Last year, we had to cancel some shows, however pertaining to the Ebola outbreak and we had to reschedule a lot of stuff,” he explained.
“At the moment, most of the things are not yet concrete but at the moment we have a lot of things on the plate.”
Interestingly, last year Busy Signal featured on the song Show Me Love by Zimbabwean artiste Patrick Kahlari who is better known as PeeKay. The track, recorded in Jamaica and the United States, is a fusion of hip-hop and dancehall.
Busy Signal has been one of the star performers on the international dancehall scene since 2003 when he released his first hit single, Step Out.
The Reggae Music Again singer is pleased with the way his new single What If is helping consolidate his status as a truly international star.
In the song, produced by Signal’s Turf Music label, the deejay took a few shots at incarcerated dancehall star Vybz Kartel and the controversial Jamaican artiste Alkaline. The thought-provoking track pokes fun at the crack-smokers, the bleachers (Vybz Kartel), and the eyeball-tattooers (Alkaline).
The hit tracks Nah Go A Jail Again, Smoke Some High Grade, Tic Toc, and Unknown Number, which, were released between 2007 and 2008, received a lot of airplay in the Caribbean and the United States of America.
From then on he released a string of international hits such as Jail, Whine Pon Di Edge,These Are the Days and Reggae Music Again, which was number seven on the BBC Top 25 Albums of 2012. Daily News
