Harare deputy mayor dies in hospital

HARARE – The deputy mayor for Harare, councillor Thomas Muzuva, has passed on at West End clinic in Harare where he was receiving treatment for cancer.

Muzuva, the councillor for Kambuzuma, had been admitted at the hospital for the past month. The opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) confirmed his death in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Party president Morgan Tsvangirai who visited Muzuva in hospital said he was greatly saddened by his death.

“Tsvangirai joins the Muzuva family, the city of Harare, the entire MDC family and the city’s residents in mourning this dedicated cadre who was committed to improving the lives of the residents of the capital city,” the MDC-T said.

Tsvangirai on Wednesday was expected to visit the Muzuva family home in Kambuzuma “to mourn a committed stalwart in the struggle for democratic change in Zimbabwe.”

Muzuva is survived by his wife and four children.

Mourners are gathered at House number 9031, Kambuzuma 5.

Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
