The Harare giants fear they might plunge into serious financial crisis from PSL fines after fans hurled missiles in their 1- 0 win against How Mine on Sunday.

Club secretary Webster Chikengezha said they were thinking of abandoning Rufaro Stadium, their traditional home ground after ugly scenes marred their last match against How Mine.

“Now we don’t understand what’s inciting their actions. If we had not won, we would have assumed they were frustrated by the defeat. So far we summoned the chairman of the supporters to look into the matter.

“We feel a section of fans are not happy with the team’s success. It could be excitement but we also felt it’s the work of detractors within the club considering that this is happening for the second time.”

“We have tried to engage them before not to be violent, but it continues to affect the club financially because there is always violence whenever we play at Rufaro.

“We discussed it with the chairman (Kenny Mubaiwa) and we might be forced to move to NSS. We once used it as our home base and never had problems from fans,” he said.

Chikengezha also cited other reasons like injuries to their players due to poor maintenance of the artificial turf .

“After careful consideration, we will decide to move to the National Sports Stadium because hooliganism has been costing us a lot.

“In 2013 we won the league title but all the prize money went to the PSL to pay for various fines as a result of violence perpetrated by our supporters and the same happened last year.” H Metro
