Chitembwe was unveiled on Tuesday morning and returns after a three year absence from Caps for a third stint as coach of the Harare giants.

With Mathe struggling to keep trail of the leading pack in the league race, in which Caps are now out of, United turned to Chitembwe who has now been set a top-four finish target.

Brenna Msiska survived the chop and would be the second assistant while Toastao Kwashi will no longer be part of the first team technical set-up.

Caps are currently 13 points off leaders Chicken Inn while on position seven on the log while six points below fourth-placed Triangle.

Chitembwe admitted that he was throwing himself back into one of the most difficult coaching jobs in the country but expressed readiness for any challenge.

“It is good to be back home. It is not easy coaching Caps United but this club has always been my home and would be available to serve them anytime,” Chitembwe said.

“I am looking forward to finish the season on a good note that makes the Caps United family happy. I have always shared the success vision with this club and together with my colleagues, we will work hard to achieve a lot.”

Mathe had managed just two wins, four draws and two defeats since taking over from Mark Harrison in June. SportsZone.co.zw
