Why is Toni Braxton keeping low?

United States R’n’B superstar Toni Braxton has not made any public appearances since she landed in Zimbabwe on Monday amid allegations of security risks.

Already speculation is rife among her legion of fans on why she has not showed up in public if all was well within her camp.

Her scheduled press conference was cancelled and the promised tour around the capital did not take place. She has not given any interview to the media.

“She said she wanted to hold a joint Press conference with Babyface (who was scheduled to jet in yesterday),” said Benie Bismark of BBMusic, the organisers of the show.

However, critics have hit out at the Grammy award winner’s behaviour. “We wonder what sort of perception she and her team want to give to the outside world. “Are they saying Zimbabwe is at war or that the country is not peaceful and unfriendly?

“How come they are asking for money from the people same they apparently do not want to see before the show,” lashed out on fan.

It appears her bodyguards are over-protective. The bouncers did not allow her to experience Zimbabwean hospitality when they swept past a group of Jerusarema dancers at Harare International Airport.

The “Breathe Again” star’s arrival at the airport was private, unlike other international stars that meet their fans at the airport. However, some music analysts said what Toni is doing is good because she is a musician not a charity worker.

“I think people should understand and read between the lines here.

“We can’t blame Toni, after all you know celebrity demands and the diva moments she should live up to.

“We wonder if they had any schedule planned for her. Her residence is private which is fine but believe you me she came to Zimbabwe for fans not to hide,” said one renowned analyst.

To say the least, Toni could have brought the whole city to a halt like what R’n’B stars Akon and Joe Thomas did when they performed in the capital Harare.

There is a sharp contrast to what Toni and her team are doing to what is expected of international acts. By the way, Zimbabwe has in the past hosted other big names in the likes of the late Michael Jackson, Shakira, Bruce Springsteen, Tracy Chapman and the great Bob Marley without incidents.

Wacko Jacko was even chauffer-driven around Harare by businessman Phillip Chiyangwa in his private car with heavy security. The “Thriller” singer also slept in the same hotel being used by Toni and again with no incident. The Herald
