Makandiwa ‘predicts’ crime wave after job losses

The leader of the United Family International Church (UFIC) Emmanuel Makandiwa has given the most obvious prophecy, predicting a surge in crime after massive job losses ignited by a recent Supreme Court ruling on contracts.

Addressing his followers in Chitungwiza on Sunday, Makandiwa said he foresaw Zimbabwe building a larger prison complex to accommodate more convicts.

“The situation cannot remain like this. It’s not healthy at all. It’s not healthy at all because what I see happening some few months from now, the government has to come up with another budget to erect a bigger prison,” Makandiwa said.

“There will be a need for that. There will be a need for that. Right now, I can tell you as a prophet, already there is a place meant for that development.

“There is need for a bigger prison — much bigger than all your boarding schools and all these things because you will need a place where to put people because of where this economy is going.”

Last month the Supreme Court delivered a judgment which now allows companies to terminate workers’ contracts upon giving three months notice.

Despite President Robert Mugabe speaking out against the ruling and the massive job losses, parastatals and government departments under the control of his administration are at the forefront of sacking workers.

Just yesterday the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) sacked nearly 300 workers including managers and journalists. Almost 20 000 people have been dismissed countrywide since the July 17 Supreme Court ruling.
