Charly Black heading to Zimbabwe

Jamaican dancehall artiste Charly Black is set to perform at Longcheng Plaza on August 8.

The musician, real name Desmond Mendize, is set to perform at the Heroes Sunsplash event which was put together by United Kingdom-based promoter Digital One International and Chipaz Promotions. In an interview, Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions confirmed the show.

“Charly Black is coming on the 6th of August and is set to perform at the Longcheng Plaza on 8th of August. We are also arranging a welcome bash for the artiste on the 6th of August,” said Chimbodza.

Black also confirmed the visit to Zimbabwe in a video released by Digital One and Chipaz.

“It’s Charly and I will be performing live in Zimbabwe on the 8th of August. Big up Digital One and Chipaz Promotions. Longcheng Plaza I will be there for the Heroes Sunsplash,” said Black in the clip.

Also to perform at the show are local dancehall chanters Soul Jah Love, Seh Calaz, Killer T, Kinna, Freeman, Templeman and many more.

Chimbodza said the visit by the Jamaican dancehall artiste will encourage local artistes to up their game. Advance tickets for the show have been released and are pegged at $5 and the VIP tickets are going for $10.

However, at the gate the tickets will be going for $10 and $20 for VIP.

Black’s music has received considerable airplay on Zimbabwe radio stations with songs like “Ungrateful”, “Too Blessed” and “First Time” making waves.

Black has evolved from being a sound system selector to a recording artiste when he won himself world claim through his hit song “Buddy Buddy”.

According to his official biography, Charly Black started singing at the age of five, winning countless singing competitions thus proving that he would be a great talent in years to come. Before he started singing professionally his first job professionally in the music business was a selector.

Starting out on a sound system in Montego Bay, Jamaica, call “Warlord Int’l” Charly Black then moved on to joined Bass Odyssey Entertainment in 2005 and has proven to be one of the best MC/Selector in the world.

Bass Odyssey was instrumental in the development and grooming of him, he is still one of their MC/Selector to date. He has matured into one of the best entertainers Jamaica has produced, commanding a level of respect and credibility that will make him a strong force to be reckon with on the international stage.

Charly Black stamped an indelible mark on the dancehall scene since his hit single “Nuff Nuff Luv” which was released in 2007 on the Nuff Luv Riddim produced by Mark Bartley of Bass Odyssey Entertainment.

Charly first single “Woman It’s You” was recorded in 2004 but his determination kept him in the studios creating irresistible melodic lyrics. He then followed this up in 2005 with “Going To The Party”, “Back Shot Time”, “Bubble” and “Girl I Love You” in 2008.

In 2009 he recorded “Rich This Year”, which was a major hit locally and internationally and “Money Dreama” which got heavy airplay.

His thought-provoking, heartfelt lyrics, coupled with his matured, energetic stagemanship makes him one of the most charismatic entertainers around today.

He continued to perform and develop his stage performances while laying the groundwork for his most recent accomplishment.

He has performed in New Jersey, New York, Texas, Florida, Boston, St Lucia, S. Vincent, and has shared the stage with many acts which include Mavado, Bounty Killer, Junior Reid, Vybz Kartel, Tarrus Riley, Turbulance, Assasin, Jose Wales, Munga, Mikeylous and Dadda. The Herald
