Case against Uebert Angel collapses

High Court judge Justice November Mtshiya has confirmed Spirit Embassy founder Uebert Angel’s sale of a Bentley Continental vehicle to a local businessman after dismissing with costs an application by a Harare man who was seeking to repossess the vehicle which he had donated to the man of cloth.

The judge dismissed the application filed by Shava Ndabazinengi after the latter failed to show up at the High Court on Thursday last week despite having pursued the matter since last year. The Bentley in question is valued at $300 000.

The judge’s order read: “Whereupon, after reading documents filed of record and hearing counsel (Angel’s lawyer, Advocate Webster Chinamora), it is ordered that plaintiff (Shava) being in default, claim is dismissed with costs.

The Bentley saga had taken several twists and turns with Shava claiming to have been duped by the man of cloth to surrender the vehicle in the name of “seeding”.

According to the court papers, sometime in 2013, Shava is said to have donated the said vehicle on prophetic motivation by Angel that he (Shava) was going to receive abundant blessings and experience multiplication of vehicles of such kind from “on high”.

But after the anticipated period of miracles had passed without coming to fruition, Shava felt he had been let down by the prophet and decided to approach the court seeking the return of the vehicle which apparently had already been sold to a third party.

In April this year, the matter was brought before High Court judge Justice Nicholas Mathonsi after Shava challenged its use by a local businessman arguing he (Shava) was still the rightful owner, but the court did not grant him ownership.

Instead, the court ordered that the businessman should keep possession of the vehicle pending the finalisation of the matter between Shava and Angel. NewsDay
