BARELY three years after a colourful wedding, Zanu-PF legislator for Mhondoro-Ngezi Mike Gava and his wife Tendai Gava nee Wenyika, are now embroiled in a messy divorce.

Wenyika filed for divorce recently at the High Court arguing that the politician was having adulterous relationships with different women.

The couple married on October 13, 2012 and their union was solemnised at the Harare Magistrate’s Court under Chapter 5:11 of the Marriages Act.

The union was blessed with a one-year-old son Mike Saviour Gava.

In the divorce papers, Wenyika said the marriage was teetering on the brink of collapse and there was no hope for a settlement.

“The marriage has irretrievably broken down due to the following reasons:

1. The parties have lost love and affection for each other.

2. The defendant (Gava) has been having adulterous relationships with women unknown to the plaintiff.

3. The parties have been living separately since April 2014”

Wenyika indicated in the papers that relatives unsuccessfully tried to solve the marital problems.

“The parties engaged relatives to try and resolve their misunderstandings, but to no avail. The plaintiff was left with no option but to file for divorce,” reads the papers.

The parties have filed a consent paper in the court file, in which they agreed to divorce. The couple also agreed to sharing of property and custody of the minor child.

“Custody of the child namely Mike Saviour Gava (born on the 28th of January 2014) be awarded to the plaintiff. Defendant shall have access to the said child once a week in consultation with the plaintiff,” read part of the consent paper.

It was also agreed that Gava should pay monthly maintenance of $200 for the upkeep of the child.

Each of the two parties will retain possession of movable properties in their possession.

The High Court will tomorrow make a final determination on the case.

Recently, Wenyika took Gava to the maintenance court at the Harare Civil Court claiming $930 for her upkeep and that of the one-year-old baby.

In her application, Wenyika claimed the lawmaker was not contributing anything towards the upkeep of his son Mike Saviour Gava. The Herald
