Rogue lover impersonates top cop

HARARE – A 38 year old man landed himself in the dock after he impersonated a senior police officer in a bid to find out where a school-going teenager he loves, stays.
Innocent Manyau, who is in the business of repairing cellphones, reportedly passed himself off as Assistant Commissioner Crispen Makedenge in a bid to have access to a certain teenage girl whom he is believed to be in love with.
Manyau was taken to Harare Magistrates’ court charged with impersonating a police officer.
He denied the charges when he appeared before magistrate, Takunda Mutetwa who remanded him in custody for trial.
State counsel, Patience Chimusaru, had it that on June 22, Manyau went to the teenager’s place of residence where he found the teenagers’ grandmother before identifying himself as Ass-Comm Makedenge.
He allegedly told the teenager’s grandmother, who is aged 65, that he was stationed at Harare Central Police Station.
It is the State’s case that Manyau told the granny that he was looking for her grandchild in connection with theft charges.
Manyau reportedly told the senior citizen that her grandchild had stolen some items of national interest at a certain shop in Marlborough.
He allegedly claimed that the items were valued at US$800.
Further accusations were that Manyau asked to search the house but the teenager’s grandmother refused saying that they were supposed to see her granddaughter first.
It was said that the elderly woman suggested that they visit her school so that they can ask about the theft.
The court heard they went to the teenager’s school where the girl identified Manyau as a man who repairs cellphones.
It was also said that the girl told her grandmother that Manyau had her three cellphones, which he was repairing.
Prosecutor Chimusaru heard that the girl’s grandmother asked Manyau to produce his police identity card.
Manyau reportedly produced Ass-Com Makedenge’s business card, which he allegedly purported to be his police identity card. H Metro
