Nicki Minaj designer set for Zimbabwe Fashion Week UK

The Crown Banqueting Hall in Birmingham this coming Saturday will play host to the Zimbabwe Fashion Week UK and one of Nick Minaj’s senior designers, Zimbabwean Farai Simoyi, will showcase her designs at the event.

Simoyi who is based in the United States has made headlines after being listed as senior designer for US hip-hop singer Nicki Minaj. Simoyi’s range includes hats, sunglasses, jewellery, dresses, swim and resort wear.

Speaking to Nehanda TV, Chiedza Dawn Ziyambe said; “this is a platform that I created to showcase Zimbabwean designers as well as artists. I found a gap, we as Zimbabweans don’t have that platform, especially here in the UK.”

Prominent Zimbabwean radio and television personality Kevin Ncube who now works for the BBC will be the lead Master of Ceremony on the day. He will be supported by Noksy Hlazo. Kevin is a known fashionista in his own right and brings a wealth of fashion knowledge and event management to the project.

UK-based artist and emerging Afro-pop sensation Chashe Musarurwa-McTaggart will perform at the event alongside several other acts. Known simply as Chashe, the singer is expected to rock the crowd with her hit song “Zvekupenga.”

“The commitment, dedication and enthusiasm that is going into this event is astounding, the designers have worked incredibly hard to share their best work with the attendees. This is a great time for Zimbabwe Fashion as more and more designers from Zimbabwe are close to a major breakthrough,” Chiedza said.

“Recently we have seen so many designers with Zimbabwean roots gaining nominations in major fashion awards across the globe. It’s a great time to be an artist from Zimbabwe and we’re pleased to give the designers and a platform to shine,” she added.

Prices start at £30.00 for a standard ticket and increase to £65.00 for a VIP ticket.
