Search for beauty at UZ

HARARE – A week after the crowning of national beauty queen Miss World Zimbabwe, another search for a beautiful lady is on tonight at the Miss University of Zimbabwe pageant.

Twelve contestants will square off in the contest at UZ that will avail the institution’s representative to this year’s Miss Universities.

Musicians Cynthia Mare and Ammara Brown are set to headline Miss UZ beauty contest that will be held under the theme “Beauty, Brains and a Heart of Charity”.

Upcoming artists Donald Kanyuchi, John Cole, Lyn Avry, Vera Melody and Probeats are some of the artists set to perform.

The organisers of the event, Rotaract Club, have promised fireworks at this year’s edition.

In an interview, the public relations officer of the pageant Shamiso Mangwengwende said this year’s edition is motivated by charity.

“This is the biggest event at college and the winner will represent the college in the Miss Universities, so everything is set for the prestigious event.

“We are being motivated by charity, all the proceeds will go to Chinyaradzo Children’s home since we want to help the less privileged children in our society,” he said.

He said they have 12 beautiful girls who will be battling for the crown.

“We have 12 girls who will be contesting and winners will walk away with different prizes including hampers from Black Opal and beauty hampers from Vaida,

‘“They are also going to get movie tickets from Ster Kinekor and there are many other prizes that will be unveiled at the event,” he said.

After the crowning ceremony, there will be an after party at the House of Syphinx and tickets are ranging from $5 to $15.

Last year Nancy Tsuro, a medical student was crowned the queen while Ronica Dewa and Thembela Ndlovu were crowned first and second princess respectively. The proceeds of last year’s edition went to Liberty Children’s Home. The Herald
