Shinsoman fails to perform in Cyprus

HARARE – Zimdancehall star Shinsoman  failed to fulfil his maiden concert in Cyprus after his name was wrongly spelt on his air ticket from Dubai to Cyprus.

The Highfield-bred musician, who calls himself the Dancehall Father, was scheduled to perform in Cyprus for Zimbabwean students from various universities in that country who had organised the gig to celebrate Zimbabwe’s 35th independence celebrations.

Shinsoman’s maiden concert in Cyprus was set to take place at the Eastern Mediterranean University in Magusa, Cyprus.

“There was a problem with my documents when I got to Dubai. The organisers misspelled my name on the tickets so I could not proceed as Fly Emirates require that the passport and ticket details should match,” Shinsoman told the Daily News.

“I had to come back on Sunday, with my manager proceeding to collect my award for the Best International Performance. He is on his way back now.”

The Mawayawaya singer added that he was willing to reschedule the gig even though he had not been paid in advance.

“I had not been paid but I will make it up to them by going to perform there after the UK tour. I am still in talks with them and am hopeful that next time we won’t encounter the same problem. The UK show is on May 2; the guys in Cyprus will organise that I pass through and honour my show,” he said.

Three Zimbabwean students who include Talent Gutu arranged the show.

One Cyprus-based fan Audrey Mawoko expressed disappointment at Shinsoman’s no-show.

“We had Zimnight (awards night and independence celebration). Shinso was supposed to make a special appearance there, then perform at the after party.  His manager Chiyangwa showed up alone, saying he had been held in Dubai because the name on his passport didn’t match the name on his transit flight ticket,” she said.

Other students were furious, taking to Facebook to express their anger and disappointment.

Tafadzwa Nigel Tenga wrote, “Waiting for Mr President’s statement, we want to know why he lied to us,” he wrote. Daily News
