Mutodi praises Mnangagwa in new song

HARARE – Flamboyant sungura musician-cum-politician Energy Mutodi will launch his 10th album Ndinokutendai (I Thank You) comprising the song, Havo Ndibaba where he praises Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The album, which is expected to hit the market in the first week of April, also implores government to legalise prostitution.
Mutodi, whose previous album Ndiri Munzira Kuuya has a song titled Chizivano that praises First Lady Grace Mugabe for her philanthropic work, vehemently refutes claims that he is singing for his supper.
“There is nothing like bootlicking in life, in fact that is stereotyping. When someone does good let them be praised.
“Even the Bible says ‘honour your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you’ hence there is nothing wrong for us to praise our national leaders.
“If we cannot honour them then who else will,” said the 37-year-old artiste.
On the title track, Ndinokutendai, Mutodi expresses his gratitude to people who matter the most in his life including his parents and God himself.
The album comprises six tracks; Uri Mhandu, Ndinokutendai, Shumirai, Havo Ndibaba, Komborerai Zimbabwe and Pfambi.
Pfambi is a controversial song where the Mutodi Express front man is imploring responsible authorities to legalise prostitution in the country.
“No matter how much we try to distance ourselves from them (commercial sex workers) the fact remains the same; they are there and they have been there since time immemorial.
“I am not trying to promote them, but government should allow them to practise since it is the oldest profession.
“They are trying to earn a living hence prostitution should be legalised and improved.”
Mutodi stormed into the music sector with a debut rhumba album called Simbi YaM’dhara in the year 2010.
He first led the old Real Sounds of Africa band for a year before establishing his own sungura outfit, Mutodi Express, in 2011.
At one point, he collaborated with sungura ace Alick Macheso on the song Angelina off the album Kumasese.
In 2001, he attained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Zimbabwe and completed a Master of Business Administration with the same university last year.
His albums include Simbi YaM’dhara (Real Sounds of Africa), Kumasese (Real Sounds of Africa), Sekawo Mbichana, Magetsi Ngaabake, Kuita Kuri Kwenyu, Chimvuramabwe, Ndinorota Landlord, Chidhedhedhe, Ndiri Munzira Kuuya and Ndinokutendai. Daily News
