GWERU – The Midlands State University Lecturers Association (MSULA) called for an urgent meeting with all the lecturers at the State run university on Friday to discuss issues to do with their salaries.

Sources at the university revealed that the lecturers have not yet been paid February salaries yet it is almost towards the end of yet another month, March.

“We are still not sure when our salaries will be paid because the authorities keep on saying next week,” the source said.

“Last month we only got our salaries after two weeks of February.”

Last week the lecturers met on Friday to deliberate on the issue. MSULA secretary wrote an email that all the lecturers should meet to map a way forward.

” Urgent MSULA MEETING
Urgent MSULA MEETING
DATE: FRIDAY 13 MARCH 2015
VENUE: West Lecture Theatre
TIME: 1300 HRS
AGENDA: February Salary and way forward
BY
MSULA EXECUTIVE,” read the email which was leaked to Nehanda Radio.

“Our representatives will meet the university authorities on Monday so that we get a definite date when our salaries will be disbursed,” the source said.

“Our position is that we are not going to work tomorrow (Monday) until we get a favourable response.

The source also said the government is scared or wants to please only uniformed forces because the soldiers have already been paid their March salaries “before we get our February salaries.”

Government has been failing to pay civil servants since the controversial 2013 elections.
At times the pay dates were shifted without notice and some government departments were given their bonuses in February.

Sources at the University of Zimbabwe also said their lecturers are joining MSU and Great Zimbabwe in the fight for the February salaries.

“UZ lecturers have a last minute meeting tomorrow (Monday) to finalise whether they will join MSU in downing their tools,” said the source.

“Bindura and Chinhoyi Universities advanced their lecturers with $200 each while they wait for their salaries so they are likely not to join us.”
