Tsvangirai dispatches letters of dismissal to ‘rebel MPs’

HARARE – There was drama in parliament after the Morgan Tsvangirai led MDC dispatched letters to the 21 legislators whom the party is recalling after they parted ways and formed the MDC Renewal Team.

Last week the MDC-T renewed its bid to recall the legislators who deserted them to form the MDC Renewal Team following a failed plot to oust Tsvangirai. MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora confirmed the party had re-launched the recall bid.

“Today the MDC T has proceeded to recall those members of Parliament who have left the party to form their own party called the MDC Renewal a.k.a UMDC,” wrote Mwonzora.

“Those MPs can seek new mandate under their political party. If the Speaker does not treat us fairly we will not take that decision lying down. In fairness these MPs can no longer claim to be representing our MDC members because they are no longer MDC. It’s now time to take Save to State House. Victory is certain.”

MDC-T sources said today the legislators were served with letters from the party.

“The letters are not coming from parliament but from the party,” said the source.

“The MDC-T only used the parliament platform as a place where they can distribute letters to individual MPs,” the source said.

In an interview with Nehanda Radio, Mbizo legislator Settlement Chikwinya, who also defected from Tsvangirai, said he did not receive anything from parliament.

“The speaker is away and in any case it is not the MDC-T that has to dismiss people from parliament. We wait for the speaker’s ruling which he has not yet made,” Chikwinya said.

Tsvangirai is recalling former secretary general Tendai Biti (Harare East Constituency), Willias Madzimure (Kambuzuma), Paul Madzore (Glen View South), Solomon Madzore (Dzivarasekwa), Lucia Matibenga (Kuwadzana West), Samuel Sipepa Nkomo (Lobengula), Reggie Moyo (Luveve) and Evelyn Masaiti.

Also being recalled are Bekithemba Nyathi (Mpopoma/Pelandaba), Moses Manyengavana (Highfield West), Albert Mhlanga (Pumula), Roseline Nkomo (Tsholotsho North), Settlement Chikwinya (Mbizo), Judith Muzhavazhe and Gorden Moyo (Makokoba).

The MDC-T also recalled three senators namely Sekai Holland (Chizhanje), Rorana Muchihwa (Chikomo) and Watchy Sibanda (Matabelaland South).

MDC Renewal spokesperson Jacob Mafume also said the ruling to recall MPs has not yet been made.

“As of now we are just waiting for the speaker’s ruling. We do not care what the MDC-T is writing to members of parliament,” he said.

Once again MT shows far greater appetite for fighting people on the same side of the struggle for democracy than fighting the evil of Zanu PF.
Will this help remove Mugabe? Will it help improve education, health or the economy? Will it help prevent the torture and abduction of Mugabe’s opponents like Itai Dzamara?

All it shows is that MT’s vision is not for a better Zimbabwe, it’s only for his everlasting grip on being the main man in opposition.

you are getting it wrong. These people are no longer taking instructions from tsvangirai. their allegiances are now elsewhere. so why should he continue to baby sit them?. its far much better for zanu pf to have those seats and for us to work to win people’s hearts afresh than to have impostors posing as our face in parliament. zvabva pamoyo. ndatenda

      • mimo28

You’re the one getting it wrong. MP’s should represent the wishes of their constituents, not those of one man. That you prefer Zanu PF to have the least rather than any opposition tells me all I need to know about your commitment to democracy.

the mps defected and formed their own party but want to remain in parliament on an mdc-t ticket . wakambozvinzwepi izvozvo muzimbabwe?? if they are popular if the people love them as they say and morgan is an idiot as they say they should have no problem winning all these seats back!! i jus pray the mdc t dsnt go back on its word now and participate in these sham by elections again

      • mimo28

So your argument is that the 21 MDC-T MP’s lose their seats, then MDC-T boycotts the by-elections and through torture and rigging those 21 seats end up with Zanu PF? I see.

        • ilovebona

my friend they are no longer mdc t mps to begin with they are umdc or mdc renewal or whatever they are calling themselves this week. those 21 seats you cry about what good exactly are they doing how have they helped anything?? parliament is a talk shop the country burns regardless of who has those seats. even if the mdc t were to participate in the by elections you and i both know that there would still be rigging and torture so why sanitize and grant legitimacy to such a process . better to allow zanu to have them so the whole world can see the true nature of the beast we are dealing with here in zim. aluta continua my friend the struggle continues

No renewal is fighting for a democratic cause. let them stand alone.

Imagine 2 teams playing a soccer match. One team has a disagreement and they ask the ref to give red cards to 4 of their own team mates. “Good riddance!” they shout, only to find that the other team can now score whenever they want because it’s 11 v 7. As the saying goes, an enemy of my enemy is my friend.
