This is after the Cosatu boss boycotted a meeting of the federation’s central executive committee which ended on Wednesday.

Cosatu deputy general secretary Bheki Ntshalintshali, reading a statement, said Vavi was acting as if he is above the organisation.

“The meeting expressed deep concern at the general secretary of the federation who continues to conduct himself in a manner that sought to define himself either above the organisation or outside the discipline if collective leadership,” he said.

“He has not attended three meetings, including this CEC at which he was expected to play his leadership role,” he added.

He was speaking at a press conference after Cosatu’s CEC.

Vavi will be asked to explain himself at the next CEC meeting in a month.

The Cosatu officials will also write to him to ask him to appear before audit firm SizweNtsalubaGobodo, which investigated allegations of maladministration against him.

The firm also investigated allegations that Vavi’s step daughter was employed by one of the federation’s service providers.

Cosatu officials said yesterday that Vavi was refusing to cooperate with investigators. Sowetan
