Tocky beats Jah Prayzah to Nama Awards

HARARE – Dancehall sensation Obey Makamure popularly known as Tocky Vibes emerged victorious during the 14th edition of The National Arts and Merit awards 2015 (NAMA) after scooping two awards at a colourful ceremony held at 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale on Saturday night.

The Mhai hitmaker outsmarted award-winning contemporary musician Mukudzei Mukombe (Jah Prayzah) in both the Outstanding Song and Outstanding Album categories in which Jah Prayzah was a nominee. The song Mhai was voted as the best while his album single Collection won against Jah Prayzah’s Kumbumura Mhute.

However, it was the prizes that were demotivating in that for his feat, Tocky walked away with floating trophies and a Stop to Start $100 Training Voucher in each category plus two nights accommodation at Hala Hotels.Speaking after receiving the awards, Tocky thanked God for guiding him to the top.

“I thank God who gave me my mother who I made a promise with. Without them I could not have this award,” said Tocky Vibes.

However the shock of the night came when Sulumani Chimbetu won the Outstanding Male musician award with the crowd anticipating that Tocky Vibes deserved the honour. Other notables who won during the night include Likwa Ncube and Cynthia Mare.

Meanwhile, other winners walked away with just floating trophies while others won DStv decoders.

Below is the list of the winners:
