Pfumbidzai tries luck at Kaizer Chiefs

Ronald Pfumbidzai, Zimbabwe’s Under-23 full back, has begun a trial with Kaizer Chiefs as he looks to try and land himself a contract with the Amakhosi.

Pfumbidzai, 20, currently plays for CAPS United in Zimbabwe and has impressed in the domestic league over the past year, earning plenty of praise in his homeland.

Now, according to Siya sources, the attacking left back will attend the Amakhosi’s camp in the Western Cape this week as he seeks to prove himself to head coach, Stuart Baxter.

The defender becomes the second trialist at the Glamour Boys at present, with midfielder, Wesley Ntshangase, also attempting to earn himself a full-time move to Naturena.

Pfumbidzai has been tipped for big things by those that have worked with him, and Baxter will no doubt be intrigued to see what he has to offer.

Chiefs will now spend a few days in the Western Cape as they prepare for the second half of the season, with their first game of 2015 set to take place on February 11th against Bloemfontein Celtic.

Meanwhile, Baxter has reportedly hinted at the possibility of converting his wide attacking midfielder, Matthew Rusike, into a number nine in an attempt to fill the void left by SuperSport United’s new signing, Kingston Nkhatha.

Rusike has seen very little game-time so far in his Chiefs career and the possibility of him being converted into such a high-pressure role, and doing well, remains to be seen.

While Rusike has a similar physique to Nkhatha, the two are completely different players when it comes to holding up the ball and creating spaces for their teammates.

Nkhatha’s runs are also on a completely different level to what Rusike has shown since joining Chiefs. Apart from being compatriots, there is very little these two attacking players have in common.

Rusike has only made two substitute appearances for Baxter so far this season, a sign that the Zimbabwean is lacking match-sharpness.

Baxter is said to calm as far as replacing Nkhatha or changing his system, as he first wants to assess his options and see how the team reacts before the resumption of the second round of the season.

Katlego Mphela, Bernard Parker, Siphelele Mthembu and David Zulu are other options the former Bafana Bafana mentor might look at as his new number nine. – Soccer Laduma
