The duo are out of contract at Highlanders and 2014 surprise packages ZPC Kariba respectively.

The joint Golden Boot winner Sibanda and Soccer Star of the Year second runner up Chikafa are believed to have put pen to paper yesterday afternoon, the same day Luke Masomere, the gold miners’ gaffer, released eight players.

However, the nomadic 2003 championship winning mentor refused to give an official comment yesterday.

“Get in touch with me on Sunday, I shall be in a position to comment on that or you can get hold of our bosses,” said Masomere who has also captured former Caps United skipper Tapiwa Kumbuyani, Highlanders’ Munyaradzi Diya, FC Platinum’s Benjamin Marere and Dynamos’ Tawanda Muparati.

However, Chronicle Sport is reliably informed that Sibanda and Chikafa were at the How Mine offices for the better part of yesterday as they were finalising a few personal issues with the gold miners.

“How Mine wanted to ascertain the two players’ contract standing with their former employers,” said the source.

Mlondolozi Nkomo, the gold miners chairman, would neither confirm nor deny the signing of the duo.

“I had a chat with the coach who indicated to us that if Sibanda was available on the market then he would be a big asset to the club, the same applies to Chikafa. We have since instructed our secretary to get in touch with Highlanders to find out the correct position while for Chikafa because of the distance, his agent has assured us that he is out of contract,” said Nkomo.

On the released players, Nkomo said they can only be in a position to comment when their technical staff forwards to them the list of players they would want to register for the season.

“Only then can I know who has been released or not but off hand I know that some had their contracts ending last month and asked for clearance letters like Edmore Muzanenhamo and Warren Dube,” said Nkomo.

Muzanenhamo and Dube are already training with the Bulawayo giants Highlanders.

Chronicle Sport understands that Caleb Masocha, Mandlenkosi Sibanda, George Magariro, Ephraim Mazarura, Emmanuel Mandiranga and Brighton Dube have been released.

Mandiranga is now in FC Platinum’s books.

Former Highlanders skipper, talented Gilbert Banda, who was out of contract survived the chop and is set to renew his marriage vows with the gold miners on Monday or Tuesday at the latest. The Chronicle
