Ace sungura musician Alick Macheso will go on a two-week retreat in South Africa, far from the ‘madding crowd’.

Macheso’s social life has of late been headlined by turmoil in the form of raging legal battles and his two-week South African visit is likely to give him peace of mind.

Macheso will leave the country in the first week of next month and return after a fortnight.

Orchestra Mberikwazvo assistant manager Jethro Manjanja confirmed the two-week trip.

“Yes, he will be in South Africa for two weeks and all the logistics and travel arrangements are done,” said Manjanja.

“We hope he comes back revitalised and give our fans a happy festive season.”

This is the first time Macheso has exceeded one week in South Africa; all his previous tours were brief weekend assignments.

He will visit Mafeking, Joburg, Cape Town  and Pretoria.

The two-week visit effectively means his local fans will be starved of their favourite music.

Macheso is expected to release a new album upon his return from the sabbatical.

He has been under pressure from fans to release new material and he has deferred the release dates twice this year, but promised he would definitely drop new material before year-end. The Zimbabwe Mail
