HARARE – The chairman of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association, Jabulani Sibanda, says there are elements within Zanu PF who are plotting against President Robert Mugabe by abusing First Lady Grace.

In a no-holds-barred exclusive interview with the Daily News yesterday, Sibanda, who has studiously refused to be part of Grace’s bandwagon of party apparatchiks who are attacking Vice President Joice Mujuru viciously, said there was a clear sinister plot to oust Mugabe by what he described as “evil elements in the party”.

“I think in my view the first lady is being abused. Let me put it this way, the First Family is being abused,” Sibanda said.

The war veterans’ leader further warned that this sinister plot against Mugabe was being waged by “a coterie of dangerous elements” in Zanu PF.

“There is a sinister motive being carried out by a few people who are anti-Mugabe, anti-first lady and anti-Zanu PF.

“The same people want to play smoke and mirror games to hoodwink people not to see their real agenda. Unfortunately, we can see through the smoke.

“We have few people who are anti-Mugabe, anti-first lady and anti-Zanu PF who disguise themselves as the ones who love Amai and the party, but we can see through their shenanigans,” the angry Sibanda charged.

The feared war  veterans leader was yesterday sledged roundly in the State media for allegedly snubbing Grace’s so-called “Meet the People” rallies.

He was also not invited to the first lady’s meeting with “war veterans” at her orphanage scheduled for today.

Sibanda further accused the “anti-Mugabe brigade” of causing the publication of false stories about him in a futile bid to tarnish other Zanu PF members’ images.

“These hypocrites who are anti-Mugabe go on to publish stories insinuating that others are against our president. We are aware of all this nonsense.

“I was one of the first people to congratulate the first lady after she was nominated for the position of Women’s League boss, and yet there are some who are trying to cast aspersions and brand us anti-first lady,” he said.

Sibanda said he was planning to expose the hypocrites soon.

“Soon I will call for a Press conference and expose all those who are anti-Mugabe. Let them do all what they want but I will call for a Press conference to deal with this issue,” he said.

“We experienced such things during the liberation struggle, we experienced such after independence and today we are experiencing it again,” Sibanda added. Daily News
