Chipaz wants to destroy me: Tocky

By Takawira Dapi

HARARE – Dancehall sensation Tocky Vibes has fired a salvo at music promoter Patson “Chipaz” Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions. Born Obey Makamure; the 20 year-old chanter accuses Chipaz of plotting his downfall.

However, the long-serving promoter rubbished Tocky Vibes’ claims. Chipaz accused the dancehall artist of being a liar.

Tocky claims he recently received a phone call from one Blue Eyes from Chipaz Promotions saying he will be finished by year end.

“I got a call from Blue Eyes of Chipaz Promotions saying by December he would have destroyed my career.

“He told me that they have the power to make or break an artist.

“They chased me at their gig at City Sports Centre on August 31 saying I am becoming big headed,” he said.

The Mhai hitmaker said his fallout with the dreadlocked promoter came after he refused to ‘diss’ another promoter Bigboy Chinoperekwei of Devine Assignments during a radio interview prior to the Harare Cup Clash and Summer Slam gigs held on August 30.

“Chipaz wants to destroy me because I said I could not go to the radio station (name supplied) to diss a show which was organised by Biggy that same day.

“I told him that I was not ready to be on radio and say bad things about them so that fans do not go there.

“Hanzi warambirei kunomakisa dhanzi (gig) raChinoperekwei yet he didn’t give me the money.

“Chinoperekwei had fully paid me in advance though he later changed the show venue and I agreed to play at both gigs yet Chipaz had neither paid me nor signed a contract with me,” he said.

The talented lyricist had no kind words for Chipaz calling for pound for pound.

Fans turned violent at City Sports Centre when Tocky failed to turn up for his performance.

He said he was restricted to enter the show venue under instructions by Chipaz before being attacked by soldiers.

“I heard that fans were violent when I failed to turn up and I understand the fans.

“Vana Chipaz vadakudya mari dzevanhu mahara, they are putting me on their posters without signing a contract with me.

“At the moment I don’t talk to Chipaz because he is the one who said I am becoming big headed, if I call him, then I will be belittling myself while saluting them pahuwrong hwavo,” he said.

Responding to the claims, Chipaz denied ever sending someone to tarnish Chinoperekwei’s gig on radio saying they were on talking terms.

“I have no beef with anyone; I just do my events as normal.

“As for Chinoperekwei, he comes to my joint when he is free and I go to his when I am free. We are business partners and we complement each other. I am a professional promoter and that (asking Tocky to diss Chinoperekwei) would tarnish my image and that of the radio station.

“All I did was to send Winky D to ZiFM and he never provoked anyone.

“I also sent Calaz and Terminator to Star FM on the same day and they never provoked anyone so it clearly shows who is lying cause all these artists purely went to market and talk about my events only.”

Added Chimbodza: “I am not a fly by night promoter; I don’t need to provoke anyone because I will need them tomorrow.

“If ever we have a problem, we will not need an artist to mediate as we are all grown up professionals, we would sit and discuss for the betterment and growth of arts in Zimbabwe. H Metro
