Star on £28million deal leaves 12p tip in restaurant

LeSean McCoy is one of the biggest stars in NFL – and one of the best-paid.

In fact, he’s currently two years into a five year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles which will see him earn a whopping $45 million – that’s £28 million.

So you can imagine the reaction when the superstar left a 20 cent top – that ‘s 12 pence – when he had dinner with friends at a restaurant earlier this week.

The waiter at Philadelphia’s PYT restaurant, Rob Knelly, told NJ.com that the star running back’s party was “pretty rude… making derogatory comments… and once they got [their food] said ‘We ain’t eating this s***.'”

[World of Sport took a look at the PYT menu, incidentally, and we have plenty of sympathy. Billing itself as ‘America’s Craaaaaziest Burgers!’, PYT sells all sorts of monstrosities – one of which, the Homer Simpson-themed “D’Oh!”  burger, includes a beefburger served in a glazed doughnut, and topped with chocolate-covered bacon. This, of course, is hardly the point – but nonetheless. Eeeuuw!]

Now, tipping in Britain is nothing like it is in the States, where adding 20% for the staff is very much seen as a normal cost of the meal, and something that diners take into account when choosing a restaurant – where staff often work for minimum wage in the knowledge that their true income will be determined by the tips they get.

So it’s little surprise that the burger restaurant staff were ticked off about the incident – posting the receipt on social media to ‘name and shame’ McCoy.

The American footballer has not explained his actions personally, but seems to have put the word out via a Philadelphia News correspondent called Les Bowen that the tip was intentionally poor in order to send a clear message about what he felt was bad service. EuroSport
