Munetsi of Chitungwiza married his fiancee, the first born of Sungura ace Alick Macheso,  in a public ceremony in Harare.

The ceremony was attended by family, friends and guests.

The two first met 10 years ago and have been together since.

Father Xavier Mukupo solemnised the colourful wedding ceremony in a morning church service that was filled to the rafters with relatives and friends.

Macheso held his daughter’s hand as they walked down the aisle.  Cheso Power looked regal in a pin stripe grey suit with a purple shirt, as he gave away his daughter to  Munetsi.

The groom knelt and thanked Macheso, before taking his bride to the altar.

The lovely couple took their vows in the local Shona language. Sharon spoke eloquently, cooing words of praise and love to her man.

The wedding cake had a picture of the groom and bride. It also had a picture of Macheso and his daughter, plus a guitar at the top.

Nyadzisai, Macheso’s wife, said Sharon was very close to her father.

“He used to confide in her as if she was a boy,” she said. “They would analyse a story together and come up with solutions.

“I am happy that my daughter has wed, she has made me proud. I just want to say to the Munetsi family they have gained a daughter and I have also acquired a son.

“I urge them to look after my daughter well because she is diabetic. So whenever she requires a doctor they should make sure that she is attended to.”

Macheso said the wedding was like a film unfolding before his eyes. “I cannot believe what I am seeing,” the Sungura maestro said. “This is like a film to me, but I am so happy that my daughter has wed. May God bless their union.”

Meanwhile, Admire Sam Munetsi, the UK-based brother of the groom said his family was happy to welcome Sharon to their family.

“She makes a lovely couple with my brother,” he said. “They started dating each other 10 years ago, they were teenage friends. My brother is coming from a stable family with lovely people and I know Sharon is also coming from such a family.”

Admire said the Munetsi family resides in Chitungwiza Unit C but most of them live abroad. He said the groom is the fifth born in a family of six and is based in Cape Town. The Munetsis’ rural home is in Chikwaka, Mashonaland East.

Two notable celebrities attended the morning church service, Nicholas Zakaria and Eunice Mashakada. Mashakada said Sharon had set a good precedence to children of celebrities that they can wed and start decent families.

A number of celebrities graced the afternoon ceremony at Oliver Mtukudzi’s Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton. Daily News
