The beauty beat 17 other models that were vying for the crown that recognises beauty in curvaceous women. Chantelle Jeradi, 19, and Chengetayi Mnisi, 20, were crowned first and second princess respectively.

For winning, Chikengezha becomes the domestic tourism ambassador for Kariba. She together with her two princesses will also be given prizes which are yet to be revealed.

Speaking after being crowned, Chikengezha said she was overwhelmed by the recognition and would do her best to ensure she makes a broad statement about beautiful women that are overlooked by western-inspired pageants that seek slim and slender models.

“All women should be proud of how God created them. I am very happy that this pageant goes beyond the constraints of traditional pageants and recognises beauty beyond weight and height,” she said.

The curvaceous beauty said she would use her reign to assist the needy.

“As Miss Curvy, I will embark on numerous charity projects. I was really touched by the lives of several people in need here in Kariba and I will ensure that they are assisted.

“There are many orphans that need assistance and I will engage various people to try and help them.”

She added that the Miss Curvy pageant had taught her to be strong and patient.

“During our days in camp, I learnt that we should always be patient with each other. I came from the pageant a stronger woman because this was a serious challenge and it has positively contributed to the way I tackle challenges in life,” she said.

Chengetayi said she would work with the queen in various projects to assist the disadvantaged.

“I am happy for this achievement and I would like to work closely with the queen during our reign.  This achievement should be an example to many. Women should know that they have many opportunities, even if the community looks down upon them because of several reasons,” she said.

Organiser of the pageant Mercy Mushaninga said she was happy the pageant had run smoothly.

“I am happy the event was a success. I hope those chosen to be at the top will represent us well. We still need support to make a point about women with curves and we will continue working hard,” said Mushaninga.- The Herald/Zimbojam
