Trio jailed for robbing Ecocash agent

Three people have been jailed for an effective 18 months for robbing an Ecocash agent of US$2 200.

Eunice Mazuru, Prince Mapuvire, and Itai Mazonde connived to rob Alice Munyaradzi at her Ecocash shop in St Mary’s.

However luck ran out of them after the complainant managed to get hold of Mazuru’s jacket which had her cellphone which was used to track them down.

The three were arrested and appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Lazarus Murendo charged with theft.

They were slapped with 30 months imprisonment before six months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

A futher six months were set aside on condition that the crew pays restitution to the complainant. The 18 months imprisonment will be effective.

August 3 around 11am, the complainant was doing her Ecocash work at Huruyadzo when she was approached by Mapuvire pretending to be a customer who wanted to do a transaction before he left.

The court heard that Muzuru also got to the scene pretending the same.

The court heard that another customer completed his transaction and when the complainant was about to give him his money, Mazuru then grabbed the money and ran towards their getaway vehicle where Mapuvire and Mazonde were waiting.

The complainant followed and grabbed her jacket which had a cellphine which was used to track her and leading to their arrest.

They had shared the loot equally but they were arrested and US$1595 was recovered.
